Driving

In the United Kingdom, unlike most other countries, we drive on the left and the steering is on the right..
But like most other things, you will soon get the "hang" of it, so that should be the least of your worries.

Traffic  Jams

And like most other countries, we do have traffic jams, especially during the early mornings and late afternoon. (From 7.00am till 9.00am and from 4.30pm till 7.30pm) So it would be advisable to avoid those times if at all possible.

Speed Limits

Speed limits are as follows:
In Town and built up areas: 30 mph
On Dual Carriage-ways: 40 mph.
On Motorways: 70 mph.
Almost every Traffic light junctions and most carriage-ways and Motorways now have cameras installed, so unless you want to be on "candid Camera" try to avoid speeding and "jumping the traffic lights"

Parking

Parking is restricted in the Central London Area and most suburban areas.
Within Central London, Cars parked illegally will almost certainly be rewarded with a parking ticket which will cost £60/=. That is if you were lucky enough not to have been towed. In that case, you will end up with a £170/= bill plus a lot of hassle.
So do ensure that you find a parking meter and insert the right amount for the duration of your stay. There are quite a few Car Parks in and around the Central London area which are not that expensive. (Around £3.50 p/hour)
Out the London area, Parking meters cost approximately 20p to 40p p/hour.

Signs and Information

All roads and Motorways are clearly signposted and chances of "getting lost" should be pretty slim. But like driving in any new Town or City, we do tend to get into some problems. If you ever do, stop and ask any passer-by for instructions. You will generally find people very helpful and if they cannot, you next best bet is to stop a "Black Cab Driver" (Taxi) and ask him for directions. The majority of Black Cab drivers are always helpful when you ask them for directions.
